Our Brain is So Powerful

I find this book insightful. Not many people understand depression or other mental conditions. For people who suffer these conditions, it is hard to find ways to cope. I myself deal with anxiety and stress. I do not know how to manage my thoughts and feelings well. This book really helps for people like me who are seeking help. It is about time to have a book that truly understands and explains the importance of careful and mindful thinking.
The author explained specifically and clearly the techniques in overcoming fear. I was not familiar with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) until I read this book. It provides an excellent introduction of the basic principles behind this therapy. I appreciate how the step by step awareness to change the mindset is well explained.
Thoughts become things. We manifest what we think the most. That is how powerful our brain is. That is what the book has taught me. I will try to apply what I learned from this book.
In the book, there are ideas on how to change negative thought into positive ones. If you want to let go of negativity and start conditioning your brain for positivity, this book is for you.

Great book!

I found this book truly inspiring and helpful. Lawrence Wallace writes an easy to follow self help guide to mastering the benefits of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. The idea behind CBT is that you can change your thoughts and therefore improve your reaction to emotions that you cannot change in situations, helping you with anxiety, stress, and depression to name a few. The book is, like I said before, set up for you to do entirely yourself. The author gives you the background to CBT in the beginning, showing you the idea behind it and helping you to understand the model of it, before giving you step by step how to begin your self practice with CBT, even granting a workbook in the final pages. I had heard of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy before, but I have to admit I didn't know as much as I thought. This book really informed me, some of the things I had come across felt like ah-ha moments. In short, I believe this book will help people connect with themselves on a new level just understanding that some intrusive thoughts are felt by all people and that they don't mean you are a bad person. Wonderful. One of the best books I have read this year to date, and I'm excited to keep up my own self practice of CBT because of this book. I highly recommend giving this a read.

Great Book!

I truly enjoyed reading Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: 7 Steps to Freedom from Anxiety, Depression, and Intrusive Thoughts. As odd as this might sound, this book inspired me to focus on creating a more peaceful relationship with myself and my thoughts. The book opens with a quote from Buddha which sums up life for so many of us, “We are what we think.” I thought that Mr. Wallace wrote in a style that just put it out there without throwing more words on a page than were necessary. The overwhelming message that I took away was to be dedicated to changing what you will allow in your thoughts, and the negative parts of your being will also change. I especially appreciated the section on setting goals, identifying obstacles, and then changing behavior to reach those goals. The workbook at the end of the book was also extremely helpful and provided a solid framework to take action. This is not a boring text-book sort of read. It is helpful and enlightening, and I plan to use the techniques for self-reflection.

This workbook it really useful. I use to help all the young parents I work with. Each of the activities are easy to understand and implement. It was also easy enough to send home with my parents to do at home. I agree with most of the strategies explained in the workbook though Im not sure how culturally appropriate the strategies are. I can see more patriarchal families such as asian families may have a hard time buying into some of the interventions. Overall, a good workbook to help young parents.

Another outstanding book by J W Murison. Science Fiction at its best, action, adventure and fantasy. A great cast of characters. Mr Murison has a very vivid imagination and a way with words. I read this book in two sessions, only stopping for food and sleep.

Not a bad story with a twist

The story was a decent tell. Worth the $1. The editing however is atrocious. It starts out at a quick pace and doesn't let up. The main charter exploits are soon predictable but is still fun to read. Detailed sex scenes while only a couple did nothing to add to the book and frankly detracted from its content. Fade to black works too. I gave the book only 2 stars because of the editing, the predictability, and the bodice ripper sex but over all it was a decent read.

An incredible book on OOP, even though implementation may be outdated

I am only 120 pages into this excellent book on effective OO PHP. There is the perfect balance of high level theory, examples, and pragmatic discussion on the pro's & con's of certain OOP approaches & refactoring patterns.

I bought this book to brush up on OOP PHP, since I had long since given up on PHP after glomming onto Ruby & Rails. I have recently gotten interested in PHP again, primarily due to the good things I see going on in the PHP-CMS space (Drupal mainly, and also WP), primarily the emergence of using frameworks to write PHP, a development which is a game changer IMO. Drupal 8 will begin using symfony 2, and this is enough to get me very interested in PHP development again.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough if you are looking to start coding OOP PHP. There are some changes it seems since the book was written (I tried "private function __get()" per page 47, and got the error that this magic method had to be public), but they are easily fixed. The Good vastly outweighs any Bad in this tremendous book!

Very Good Book

Simply put, this is one of the best books on OOP & PHP I have laid my eyes on. I got it based on a friend's recommendation. I was going through his library in his office of probably 20+ php books (including others on OOP [he's an OOP guy])- and he's a php book contributor himself) and he pointed out this one and said this was the best treatment of OOP he'd ever seen. This coming from someone who it seems thinks in PHP at times, I quickly got it and have not been disappointed.

So if you're reading reviews and wondering if you should get this or the other book...no question, get this.

Libby is a young woman who has been given an incredible opportunity designing stage costumes and coordinating the stage design for a country star. Clay is a young man who has been hired by Max, the country star to coordinate his tour after the Max fired the last man. Clay and Libby are intrigued with one another and eventually, there cones the time that Clay must spank Libby for her poor choices. After that, they develop a relationship. This is a sweet story about young love and a spanking or two thrown in. I give this story 4 stars.

Nothing outstanding here. It is a sweet spanking story, but the intimate scenes generated no heat for me and the spanking was mixed with laughing and made it seem that really inappropriate behavior was not really a big deal. I will not be checking out more books by this author.

This is a fun story with delightful characters and witty dialogue. Libby Hamilton, 22 years old, is talented and fortunate to have been hired without prior experience to be over costume and stage designer for country music star Max Walls. Unfortunately, she lets her temper and mouth get her into trouble. Clay Harris has been hired as Max's new business manager. Clay let's Libby know that he has heard of her behavior and he will take her in hand if she gets too big for her britches. Being Libby, she crosses the line. The relationship between Libby and Clay is entertaining with a sweet and romantic love story. The story has several spanking scenes, including an erotic spanking. The sex is moderate and not graphic.

Comprehensive and Practical

I think this book stands out from others in the heap of books on screenwriting in at least two salient aspects.

First, it does a fairly good job of defining the terms being used. There is great confusion in screenwriting terminology; different authors have differing definitions for commonly used terms -- or none at all. They just throw out terms as if the reader already knows what it means or the meaning is so intuitively obvious it doesn't need definition. Or they define the term vaguely and apply it inconsistently so it seems to mean one thing in one paragraph, and then something else in another. Terms do need clarification and authors need to be consistent.

Second, whereas some authors emphasize a particular element or technique as a sin qua non -- if not the sin qua non for creating a marketable manuscript -- this book discusses all the basics with no particular emphasis or preference for one.

After surveying the basics, the authors apply their analytical schema to 14 notable films from various genres including The GodFather, Rashomon, Annie Hall, sex lies and videotape and Hamlet. Though I don't always agree as to how they apply their schema, it's a practical schema.

Masterful! Brilliant! Amazing!

Forget all of the other books out there...or, buy the other books, but make this one first on your list. Howard and Mabley are both accomplished professional writers and they know their tools of the craft, which they now share with you. This book succeeds immensely simply because it lists the elements of a screenplay and tells how each is best used and why. It has all of the basic elements: Dialogue, Dramatic Irony, etc. But ever heard of "Preparation and Aftermath", "Future and Advertising", "Planting and Payoff", or "Plausibility"? If not, then learn how to include them in YOUR screenplay to make it better, more exciting, and more fulfilling in a dramatic and universal way. Absolutely the best book on screenwriting. Period. Buy it now. I have read it a countless number of times and each time I learn something new or it spurs my imagination to create something new in the world of my screenplay. Please do yourself a favor and get a hold of this book. A masterpiece of screenplay instruction.
