Great textbook, it was very informative. I used it in my history class and it was very helpful. It skims over some things but is good for its size. It was good for my class and it was a required read. As a college student I couldnt have done class with out this book. I shared it with other students and classmates as well. I like the design on the cover, it is very artsy and creative. It is nice to look at, I understand why my teache chose this specific textbook to use in his class. I used the ebook which is nice and convenient because of technonlgy.

Mystery or Not, We Must Learn From History

I heard the buzz, so I read the book. I also caught a glimpse of the naysayers, those who put down the ideas in this book. Finally, I read a few pages of the companion book, courtesy of Amazon's Look Inside feature.

Are these harbingers something America needs to watch out for? Does this book show just how the United States of America will fall from power, disappearing before the Tribulation?

With an apology to those who find offense in the pedestrian phrase, I still must use it because of its simplistic and literal truth: God only knows.

On the plus side, Rabbi Cain obviously knows his Old Testament, Jewish history, and American history well enough to spin quite a self-referential tale. It truly is interesting to see the parallels between the nation of Israel during the days of Isaiah and modern America. Indeed, one cannot help but get a tingle down their spine reading about it, even though some are so obvious that the reader winders just how blind the book's protagonist misses so much.

On the minus side, though, is the plain, simple fact that America was not created to be, nor is today, the modern-day land of covenant. Replacement Theology states that Israel has been replaced, either temporarily or permanently, by the "Church," and that the USA is the host country for that new Promised Land on this side of the cross. Many will argue that much of our country's decisions were made based on that assumption. Still others, especially those of us who have seen the revived nation of Israel, wonder how that can be true.

To put it bluntly, God never made a covenant with America like He did with Abraham. The covenant, found in Genesis, was unique in that God did all the work. Abraham simply set things up and agreed. That would be like having a book publisher guarantee a NYT bestseller without seeing your manuscript, knowing what it's about, or cheating in any fashion. God can do that, as He sees the end and the beginning as one. He knew what would come from Israel, and knows the final plans for it.

America supposedly committed itself to God in days gone by, but that isn't the same, even if the founding fathers were true Christians and not mere "deists." No matter what their slant was, God did not come down, split some livestock, and pass between them in a cloud of fire. One would think that would be recorded quite prominently, but it's not, not even in the Illuminati-biased secret-society conspiracy theories.

Nonetheless, the parallels our country has followed relative to those of God's chosen people are too stark to be ignored. If they couldn't get away with such rebellious self-confidence, why should any of us here in the USA believe we can? The Harbinger borders on conspiracy theory at times, but provides documentation of the evidence. Even if the USA is not the modern-day Judah, even if we were never the covenant people they were, there's no good reason to believe that God would protect us any more than He did His rebellious people of the Old Testament.

No matter what else can be said about Cain's logic, his conclusions stand with the support of recent history. We have no good reason to think that the United States of America is any better off than Israel was in Isaiah's time. If anything, we have reason to believe that we are worse off! That's the value of this story-that-isn't-a-story: no matter what the connection between Israel and the USA, we are doomed to repeat their history if we continue to follow it.

Absolute MUST read for every person who lives in the United States

EXCELLENT Book!!!!! My sister gave us this book and the Mystery of the Shemita. We had never heard of them before. Hubby read the Harbinger and could not stop talking about it while reading it. He kept wanting to tell me about the book, but since I had planned to read it after him, I didn't want him to spoil it for me. Every day he shook like a hyper Chihuahua dog because he wanted to talk about it so badly! Well, at least that was what it seemed like to me. When he finally finished the book, I finally got my turn at it.

WHOA...... Unbelievable book. I could not put it down. It gave me goose bumps.

It is written as a "story", narrated by the main character most of the time. But the details contained in the story are real and factual. A simple search on Google will confirm the details. Your own memory of recent events (9/11, the stock market crash, the fall of Lehman Bros, the housing crash, etc) will be a confirmation for you that the details are real. I never realized how these details were all related. But once the ducks were all in a row, it was impossible for me to deny.

Once you read the book, you can decide for yourself if the author is on to something. My husband ended up buying this book on Kindle, as well as the Mystery of the Shemita, even thought the books were given to us for free. He then bought the "The Harbinger Companion With Study Guide: Decode the Mysteries and Respond to the Call that Can Change America's Future- and Yours" on Kindle. He said it too was really good. I am now reading the Companion book. It gives a lot more details of these current events. I'm glad I'm reading it.

The "story" is simply the vehicle upon which to convey what the author wants to tell you. I felt the "story" format made the book easier to read.

There are hard to deny truths in this book. Look back at our recent history, and it will make you shiver.

My son first introduced "The Harbinger" to me on you tube. This book follows that documentary very well with enough more in-depth insertions that I felt it worthwhile to read the book along with watching the program. I am reminded of the quote..."For those who believe, no explanation is necessary. For those who don't believe, no explanation is possible." This is a fact-filled book. It is not fiction and not embellished. No need to give the stories away. No matter what you believe, about anything, give this book a try. Then pass it on.

An Original Sequel

The sequel to Brightflame Ascension is captivating. Filled with new characters and new territories, the Brightflame continues his quest across Gammalgard. As a reader I was strapped to the edge of my seat throughout (I binge-read it in two sittings). I would rank this in my top 10 favorite fantasy series.

Congrats to D.B. Penner and I look forward to the third book.

A great follow up book, continuing Brightflames struggles against the Hunters and the Shadow Liberator. A good twist and Will coming into more of his powers provided a great store to follow. I couldn't put it down once I started and look forward to the third installment.

This book is full of grammatical errors, spelling errors, and is really difficult to read. I resent spending money on this assigned reading. I do not recommend it.

Improved and Expanded 9th Edition

Now in its ninth edition, this book has become the standard of the field. It is intended to help those whose job it is to facilitate the career development process. This includes school, employment, career and rehabilitation counselors as well as other individuals who are influential in the career development process.

The ninth edition has improvements in virtually all areas, the most important of which is that it now meets all Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) standards. Another area that has been expanded is the concept of a career that changes from time to time in the workers life. Based on chaos theory, this realizes that the outlook for particular jobs, particular careers change from time to time and in unpredictable ways.

The strengths that this book brings to the subject in the form of the writing style and intellectual depth of the author remain; making this book both educational and entertaining.

Timely and relevantly updated for today's career issues

This edition of Dr. Brown's textbook is a great one for students. He has added introductions and reviews to the beginnings and ends of each chapter, helping the student clarify the pertinent information. This gives the book a much more focused readability, especially for those learning the material for the first time.

Especially important for practicing counselors is the new section on Labor Market trends and issues. Additionally helpful is the section on interventions used by career counselors.

I like Dr. Brown's comprehensive understanding of what career means to all people - not just the college-bound or college-educated. His focus on alternative careers and alternative educational pathways create a framework for counselors to use with clients of all types.

Additionally, I especially like his counseling the reader to think of their own theory, and how to use values-based, multi-cultural counseling as a model for clients. He is clearly sensitive to the needs of all people who endeavor to enter the world of work.

About the Author

DO NOT BUY THE KINDLE VERSION

Ah such high hopes I had when I bought this book for Kindle. It's a great book, but whoever made it for Kindle was incredibly lazy. The illustrations are near impossible to see, there are a bunch of typos, and in some places the text just starts and stops at random intervals. Please do yourself a favor and don't buy the Kindle edition, your frustration will be boundless

Deceptive and overpriced

First of all, the Dover Edition and the original edition of this book are great. Their positive reviews are accurate.

This review is about the incredibly poor quality edition produced by CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform. Their's is a very low quality, print-on-demand, version of the book which has two inch black margins, pixelated illustrations, and lacks substantial portions of the text. Presumably, CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform is one of those companies that exploits the easy availability of free texts to sell print-on-demand versions with no quality control. Also, their edition is almost twice as expensive as the much higher quality Dover one. As far as I can tell, their's is listed first because they lie about the publication date and exploit some sort of searching bug in Amazon. This is a dishonest and opportunistic way to sell overpriced, lower quality, goods online.

Don't waste your money on the CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform edition, buy the Dover Edition instead: The Royal Road to Card Magic

If there's one book to get to learn card magic, this is it.

This book was highly recommended to me by a magician, who had it highly recommended to him by other magicians. If there's one book to get on card magic, this is it. If you're like me, you'll start getting all kinds of ideas for your own tricks by the time you finish the first chapter, and that just covers the basics. There's a reason this book is so highly praised.

As a companion, look into the DVD sets by the same name.

About the Author
The late Kären Matison Hess, PhD, wrote extensively in law enforcement and criminal justice, gaining a respected reputation for the consistent pedagogical style around which she structured each textbook. She co-authored multiple editions of MANAGEMENT AND SUPERVISION IN LAW ENFORCEMENT, CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION, JUVENILE JUSTICE, and INTRODUCTION TO LAW ENFORCEMENT AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE in addition to CONSTITUTIONAL LAW AND THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM; much of her work and influence remains unchanged in this new edition.

Christine Hess Orthmann holds an M.S. in criminal justice from the University of Cincinnati and has been writing and researching in various aspects of criminal justice for over 20 years. She is the author of numerous Cengage Learning textbooks, a former reserve officer with the Rosemount (Minnesota) Police Department, and a member of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS), the American Society of Criminology (ASC), the Text and Academic Authors Association (TAA), and the National Criminal Justice Honor Society (Alpha Phi Sigma).

Henry Lim Cho holds an M.A. in Human Services with an emphasis on Criminal Justice Leadership from Concordia University, St. Paul, Minnesota. He has worked in the field of criminal justice for more than 10 years, having held positions in private security and as a community service officer, police officer, and detective. He retired from the Rosemount (Minnesota) Police Department with the rank of Sergeant. Sergeant Cho has experience as a use-of-force instructor and as a crime scene investigator. His professional memberships include the Text and Academic Authors Association, Minnesota Police and Peace Officer's Association, International Association of Identification--Minnesota Chapter, Minnesota Sex Crimes Investigator Association, High Technology Crime Investigation Association, National White Collar Crime Center, and the Fraternal Order of Police. He co-authored POLICE OPERATIONS and INTRODUCTION TO LAW ENFORCEMENT AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE, and has been published in the Minnesota Police Journal.

The very first quantum many-body theory (Bethe’s ansatz) was devised for magnetic chains, just as mean-field theory was invented a century ago by Weiss to explain Curie’s Law. The first two chapters of this book are immensely readable, taking us from prehistory to the “spin valves" of the most recent past. Topics in subsequent chapters include: angular momenta and spin (Chapter 3), quantum theory of simple systems, followed by increasingly technical insights into ordered and random systems, thermal fluctuations, phase transitions, chaos and the like. Contemporary developments in nanotechnology now seek to take advantage of the electron’s spin as well as of its charge. The time is not far off when nano-circuits made entirely of silicon exhibit such many-body properties as superconductivity or ferromagnetism — without any superconducting materials or magnetic ions being present. The reader of this book will be prepared for such exotic twenty-first century applications. It is a wonderful book.

The author did make the book pleasant to read. The selected materials are up-to-date and useful. The book is fairly self-contained and goes from simple concepts to advanced methods. It is perhaps most suitable for readers with some background of quantum theory and condensed matter physics and helpful for professionals who would like a quick introduction to magnetism, a subject now required for standard technologies such as magnetic memory and advanced technologies such as spintronics.

Good review

This book is a good review on this subject. In starting the book with a brief history of the magnetism, the author shows in a very soft way how important the Quantum Mechanics is to this subject. There are very good examples for each section and what there is most recent in this issue. Unfortunately, some important topics are treated in a very superficial way. As an example is the renormalization group which has an enormous application in magnetism. Despite that, this book would be a good choice to a course on introduction to magnetism.

Not What Is Expected

The "made simple" part of the title is completely misleading. Its is not at all simple. Not at all at an introductry level.

The chapter on angular momentum has many "trivial" mistakes. For example, he writes J|Y) = (h-bar)m|Y) and calls "m the eigenvalue". But it is the "(h-bar)m" that is the eignevalue and not just "m".

A little later he writes that he will from this point on use units in which h-bar = 1. O.K. But then he continue to write in h-bar all over the place.

This book could use a good technical editor.

And, again, it is not a "made simple" book unless you already know the material.
