If you have anything less than a 10" tablet, you may be better off getting a psyhical copy of the book. The text in this book does not flow based on the size of your tablet. It's the equalivent of having to zoom in on a PDF file and pan around to read the entire text.

This book only works on a kindle device, andriod or iPhone/iPad device. No using it with the kindle Web or Windows app.

While the published date is a bit old, the book contents are very much relevant as the fundamentals of software engineering remain the same. We used this text in one of our grad courses and personally, I preferred it over Pressman's SEPA 8E.

Very abstract, very high level, very old

If you have to buy it for a class, get it. Otherwise, find something that was written more recently. Although the 2nd Edition shows a 2003 date, the vast majority of the text is obviously out of date and was written about 20 years ago. It has one chapter on object oriented design and it discusses it almost as if it were a passing fad. If there's a 3rd edition, let's hope it gets rewritten and doesn't just get a few references updated.

Firmly established over the last decade as the essential introductory Digital Signal Processing (DSP) text, this second edition reflects the growing importance of random digital signals and random DSP in the undergraduate syllabus by including two new chapters. The authors practical, problem-solving approach to DSP continues in this new material, which is packed up by additional worked examples and computer programs. The book now features:

• fundamentals of digital signals and systems
• time and frequency domain analysis and processing, including digital convolution and the Discrete and Fast Fourier Transforms
• design and practical application of digital filters
• description and processing of random signals, including correlation, filtering, and the detection of signals in noise

Programs in C and equivalent PASCAL can be found on the books supplementary website. Typical results and graphic plots from all the programs are illustrated and discussed in the main text. The overall approach assumes no prior knowledge of electronics, computing, or DSP. An ideal text for undergraduate students in electrical, electronic and other branches of engineering, computer science, applied mathematics and physics. Practising engineers and scientists will also find this a highly accessible introduction to an increasingly important field.

Excellent book for beginners

In my opinion this is one of the best books on digital signal processing for beginners. It presents a clear and intuitive explanation of all the fundamental concepts needed for more advanced studies, providing a very good background and solid understanding of this subject.

Great introduction

I have read lots of introductory and advanced dsp books. In my opinion this book is the best book when it comes to learning fundamentals. This was the book along with the book i'll mention later which allowed me to read and understand more advanced books. Explanations are clear and supported with lots of figures and worked examples. Even though software examples provided on it's disk is very primitive and dated, they are still very helpful for beginners. (Source codes available and perfect for validating your understanding about formulas and calculations) I strongly recommend it. Understanding Digital Signal Processing (2nd Edition) by Richard G. Lyons is also great. If possible buy both otherwise buy this one.
