While I ended up not using this book much for the class I purchased it for, I completely intend on saving it for every year of college to come. I pride myself in my write but having helpful guides like this are always nice. Not to mention the tabs make it so much easier to maneuver the book.

Are there better books than this?

This book is okay. It has a lot of important information in it, and good examples, but they are pretty well hidden among the unnecessary gibber. It's a good book, however I didn't really use it much, other than doing problems and the example problems.

Chapter 2 Review

Chapter 2 does a good job of describing the fundamentals of atomic bonding. The chapter starts out by reviewing the basic structure of the atom being the nucleus and the electrons. The nucleus is the center of the atom that is made up of protons and neutrons while the electrons are contained in the surrounding "shells" or orbitals. Throughout the beginning they explain the differences between the two types of bonding that can occur between atoms, the preliminary and the secondary bonding. They include the ionic, covalent, metallic, and the Van der Waals bonds. There are a few ideas that are mentioned for a reminder such as the mass of the proton and neutron, electron and Avagadro's number, which represents the number of protons necessary to provide a mass of 1 gram. There is an explanation of the orbital system and hybridization and a brief description of the different bonds mentioned in the preliminary and secondary bonding. Not only does the author describe the basics of the bond it does a good job of determining the origin of the bond, such as the ionic bond being the result of the Coulombic attraction. As a result of the easily understood explanations, they do supply brief definitions of the bond length, repulsive force, bonding force and bonding energy. Another topic that is touched on is the idea of the coordination number (CN) which depends on the ion properties. Following the CN, a definition of the different properties of the bonds and electrons and bond angles is thoroughly explained. Another thorough explanation is provided for the "Van der Waals" bonding, which is the attraction of opposite charges while there is no actual electron exchange. There are two types being permanent and temporary. I would recommend this book for a thorough explanation of the atomic structure.

A decent book, Ch6 for example

Chapter 6 covers the topic of Mechanical Behavior in 6 sub-sections. These sections include the stress versus strain relationship (a.k.a. Young's Modulus), elastic and plastic deformation, hardness, creep and stress relaxation, and viscoelastic deformation.
Section one discusses Young's Modulus in relation to metals, ceramics and glasses, and polymers. In this sub-section, engineering stress/strain and the differences between elastic/plastic deformations are discussed, as well as yield strength and tensile strength. This section includes some nice reference tables, and describes the stress/strain curve in great detail.
Sections two and three discuss elastic and plastic deformations. In the latter section, the slip plane for crystalline solids is well covered with some interesting illustrations.
Section four discusses hardness tests, in particular, Rockwell hardness and Brinell hardness numbers.
Creep and stress relaxation are discussed in section five, and covers the dislocation climb in plastic deformation among other topics. I feel that a better explanation regarding the preexponential constant is needed in this section.
The last section deals with viscoelastic deformation, and discusses various topics such as the glass transition temperature, viscous deformation, and softening temperatures. Also of interest is the subject of tempered glass, which is discussed in some detail.
This chapter does well in describing the general terminology and includes several equations with a practical application through example problems. In my opinion, though, this chapter doesn't cover enough information to answer some of the end of chapter problems, but a little on-line research should yield the required information.

About the Author
Noah Hutchings was born December 11, 1922 in Southeast Oklahoma near Hugo. His father lost the farm during the 1929-30 market collapse, and Noah lived with his grandmother who drew a Civil War pension. In 1938-39, he worked for the Franklin D. Roosevelt NRA farm program. Noah also served in WWII which included three years in the South Pacific theatre as a radar operator for a 16-gun, 90 mm Antiaircraft Bn the first half and director of field artillery for the First Cavalry Armored Division the second half. After WWII, Noah went back to school and graduated with a degree in business law, management, and accounting from Hills University. He went to work as an accountant for Southwest Radio Church Ministries in April, 1951, and after the death of the founder, Dr. E.F. Webber in 1959, he became more involved in direct ministry. He has written more than 100 books, including his latest, 40 Irrefutable Signs of the Last Generation . He has participated in or produced more than 20,000 radio programs and many additional TV programs. He has been personally involved in dozens of missions to Russia, China, Mongolia, Central America, and other countries. He has also led Bible tours to many foreign countries, including 53 just to Israel. At 88, he continues to work six days a week with teaching at church on Sunday. He has three daughters, Cathy, Cheryl, and Carol, and lives with his wife Kim in Oklahoma City.

Best book I�ve read on �Biblical pyramidology�

This is the best book on Biblical pyramidology I have yet to read.
While not boggling the mind of the reader with countless measurements supporting prophecy (which has already been done by many other books), he touches on the existence of such and gives the measurements of the Great Pyramid which are the most relevant to the reader to prove the advanced knowledge possessed by the builders.
He quotes extensively from Scriptures, as well as from Josephus and other writers, that could only be describing the Great Pyramid. The whole book is from a Christian perspective as well.
He is the first author of Biblical pyramidology that I have yet to read whom acknowledges that the pyramid was almost definitely not built by human hands and brute force without at least some type of extraordinary technological abilities. He gives many reasons for such a belief as well as touching upon many artifacts found which bring to light some of ancient peoples' technological devices and achievements.
This book covers such diverse topics that they could all be expounded upon to write at least five other books. That Noah Hutchings brings to light so many diverse topics and opinions in 171 pages, while done in an easy to read and understand way, is a testament to his good writing and teaching skills.
Of the many topics touched upon, some are: ancient technology, the wonders of the ancient world, possible explorations of space by early man, the pre-Adamite destruction of the earth due to Satan's fall, UFOs as angelic manifestations, space wars, HAARP, and, of course, the Great Pyramid.
This is a great starter book for those wishing to delve into the mysteries of the Great Pyramid, even if one is not Christian, for it covers many different viewpoints (the Christian one prevailing) and quotes from many books which have been written on the subject. The extensive quotations from Scripture, though, will probably upset those who don't believe in the Bible as God's Word.
Though I wish he had written more on many different facets of the pyramid (like the hieroglyphics above the king's chamber probably being forged, the fact that the ascending passage could only have been sealed by the granite plugs during the construction of the pyramid, the hidden chamber in one of the "vents" of the King's Chamber, etc.), he still does a great job in bringing together so many different aspects involved with, or involving, the Great Pyramid.
Get this book. It is well worth the money.
Also, for a book on the mathematical intricacies as relates to Biblical prophecy in the measurements of the Great Pyramid, I recommend DECODING THE GREAT PYRAMID by E. Raymond Capt, and for one that documents the extensive knowledge and "uncanny" building abilities possessed by ancient man, though not from a Christian perspective, I recommend THE FINGERPRINTS OF THE GODS by Graham Hancock.

Easy to read

I found the book to be very interesting. Some people think that if a man has faith in God nowadays or he correlates the scientific and archaeological evidence to biblical patriachs having a hand in the direct or indirect building of the Cheops pyramid that such good men as Hutchings does they are somehow religious whackos. It's obvious that the ancient heathen nation of Egypt had virtually nothing to do with this pyramid except maybe than manual labor. The heathen markings aren't to be found in this pyramid like all the others along the equatorial Nile region. Hutchings is just trying to find out & relate the truth as Piazzi Smyth, Taylor, and others have done. This is a good read for somewhat of a novice on Cheops pyramid as myself for a first book. I'm reading Smyth's book on the pyramid and it's more detailed and has more in-depth facets but is a difficult to read. I tried to read it ten years ago and it was to difficult for me to keep interest in it then, but Hutchings book is highly recommended for beginners. I always try to read books from different viewpoints on pyramids. Hutchings views are creditable.

Everyone should read this book!! I was astounded when I learned of the details of the Great Pyramid. Hutchings states facts and statistics regarding the Great Pyramid that are compelling to say the least. This book certainly leaves no doubt that "ancient" man was WAY more sophisticated than modern scientists give them credit for...This is a book that you will want to recommend and even loan to a friend.

Kathleen P. Freeman, DVM, BS, MS, PhD, DipECVCP, FRCPath, MRCVS, RCVS, is an American-trained veterinary clinical pathologist who works in the UK as a senior veterinary clinical pathologist for IDEXX Laboratories. Dr. Freeman is also a consultant for the Veterinary Information Network and a founding Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Clinical Pathology (ECVCP). She has been the founding chair for the Quality Assurance and Laboratory Standards Committee of the American Society of Veterinary Clinical Pathology (ASVCP) and for the Laboratory Standards Committee of the ECVCP. Dr. Freeman received the ASVCP Educator Award in 2014. She has special interests in quality assurance and quality control, biological variation, cytology and equine pathology.

Stefanie Klenner, Dr.med.vet, DipECVCP, is a veterinary clinical pathologist located in Germany working as scientific product manager laboratory diagnostics for the international scil animal care company. Dr. Klenner is an instructor for online courses about laboratory quality assessment and management for the Veterinary Information Network and regularly lectures at national and international conferences. She is chair of the laboratory standards committee of the European College of Veterinary Clinical Pathology (ECVCP). Dr. Klenner’s main interests are haematology, acute-phase proteins and quality assurance in laboratory diagnostics.
