Very helpful in cleaning your daily slate through writing

My daughter is a writer and she thought my life was too stressful and I was always frustrated so she mentioned to me that it might help if I wrote in a journal every night to release tension before bed. I figured i’d give it a try but it didn’t seem to be helping. I did some research and found this book. After some careful reading I realized my problem was I was just writing down my feelings, not diving into them to seek out the source of those feelings or how I feel about certain events throughout the day. That is why writing at night didn’t do me any good cause I was simply entering data instead of critically thinking about what happened during the day. I’d like to thank this author because I was able to release tension with the tips they provided and I already see a difference in my mood each day. It allows me to release the past and look toward the future.

For me it was wonderful because I did want to brush up on my writing techniques. This is also a perfect guide for ideas and has the most amazing prompts that require readers to use both reflective and critical thinking. These two ways show major improvements in the way I analyze and write. Definitely enjoyed this book. Readers will also find a motivation to enhance their own creativity from this great inspiring tool created by Quinten Farrell. I highly recommend this book to readers world wide. Overall, I rate it a five out of five stars.

First off, I didn't know that journal writing could mean critical writing and reflective writing. But anyway, this book gives you a few tips on how to write journals if you are just foraying into this hobby. Journal writing can eventually become a career in blogging or in reviewing as well, so plenty of other opportunities can open up once you take up this hobby. There are several types of journals you can keep or write, but would suggest focusing on only one otherwise you get a bit more overwhelmed. There is also a follow up to this book, an idea one for every day of the year, which you can pick up if you think the hobby is worthwhile.

John Patrick is a professional gambler, host of his own TV show for 14 years and has made over 1000 appearances on Radio and TV shows, explaining the proper procedure for intelligent gambling techniques.

He has written 13 books on all phases of gambling, been quoted in numerous magazines and newspapers and was saterized on Saturday Night Live. His Theories are conservative but effective, having been involved in the gambling world for over 35 years.

Finally, his Theories are very confrontational.........many times daring his readers to use the moves it takes to become a successful gambler. You may question his style, but you can't question his success in gambling.

Gambling Voodoo

John Patrick points out the obvious as his strategy for betting on a game, several times. He then tells you his real stategy for making money, which is a simple but flawed money management system, over and over and over. He annoyed me with stories of his "friends" with corny names like I.M. Stupid,I.M. Broke, and Lotta Cash on every page, but I got used to it by the middle of the book. I finished the book liking him and his colorful writing style, having known a more than a few characters like him, growing up here in Las Vegas. Breaking down his book it looks like this: useful handicapping advice 10% B+, Questionable money handling practices 30% D, stressing discipline in money 35% A, sometimes irritating but colorful stories as examples 25% B-, experience 100% B+.

KISS is the way to go...

I have to admit that when I first got the book I was thinking to myself, what is it with Watt E. Cey and I. M. Smart, this is not what I expected. I put the book down and went searching for more "substantial" research

I ended up buying books which went into full blown statistical analysis, I recall saying to myself "Now I got it, the numbers don't lie and Power Ratings are the way to go", needless to say my bankroll was showing other wise. After some disappointment, I then turned back to Mr. Patrick's book, re-read the book and said to myself "The stuff makes sense, yet it is quite simple."

I ended up applying the "theories" written in the book and began to win! I have been using Mr. Patrick's theories for over 3 years now and have had winning seasons in NBA, NHL, MLB and NFL. (I stay away from the colleges, just to time consuming). I must confess that I do apply some other theories I learned from other books, but only to gain consensus and I believe this is what John Patrick tries to convey in his book, learn some theories (i.e. his) and tie them into your own.

KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid)is the way to go. It works in sports analysis and it works in trading the markets. You don't need to develop sophisticated programs to find winners.

I have to give the book 5 Stars for it simple theories that work year in and year out.

John Patrick's gambling books are a waste

Books on gambling theory should help you make money. His theories will not do that, since they lack a solid mathematical basis. Take a look at his book on Craps, or "Beating Roulette!" (I mention this, as professional gamblers do not try to beat Roulette with any system you can find in a book).

Everything he puts out in any gambling topic is "fast food". His goal is to sell books, not to educate. If you are serious about studying sports investing, a good introductory text is "Sharp Sports Betting" by Stanford Wong (who is also a legitimate Blackjack author).

It helps but, ...

I purchased this solution's manual to assist me with Beer & Johnston's Vector Mechanics for Engineers. Although the solutions they provide therein are clear and complete, you should not expect to find a solution to a specific problem bedeviling you. I spent a great deal of time looking for a similar solved problem from which I could harvest the technique and apply to my situation but, 70% of the time I was unsuccessful. In the absence of a solutions manual from the publisher and limited professor office hours, this may be your only recourse. Good Luck!

For a book purporting to be of solved problems, then I cannot reccomend it at all. The workings are not very thorough... skipping out whole lines of calculation. This leaves you with the feeling that figures have just been plucked out of the air.

Not very helpful for assistance with coursework or revision.
