Disarmingly honest and brave, Bolelli is the champion of pop philosophy

Daniele Bolelli has carved out an odd place for himself in popular culture: University professor, MMA fighter, homespun philosopher and single-parent father, his disarming honesty and bravery in not just fighting but life itself is an inspiration. "Not Afraid" is by far his most personally revealing book and for the many fans of his podcasts, it's going to be an expected treat. For those new to Bolelli, don't be afraid, listen to him and hear yourself reacting to his incredible insights into how to live a life full of challenges and thrive despite the occasional beat down. Highly recommended!!

I had a hard time putting it down, took me two days to read. Emotionally wrenching at parts, brutally honest and motivates one to face fear in whatever form it takes head on. You will laugh, fight back tears and come away feeling a loss that it is finished.

This is a really great book

This book could not have had more of an impact on me if Prof. Bolelli had thrown it at my head. The hardcover version not the paperback. If you don't read this book, and let it into your soul, YOU have given up on leading anything other than a beige colored life. Please don't be beige. Also, there is an audio version of this that is africkinmazing as the good Prof narrates it himself. Its like listening to a being from another multiverse, in a good way. Buy it from him website, it may just change your life.

Excellent Book

This book is an excellent reference source. I do believe you need to use different sources of information when you are trying to learn new concepts. This is one of them. Unfortunately as soon as you become familiar with the new concepts and technology it becomes outdated or upgraded so you are constantly spending money to keep up with technology.

One more for the reference library!

Easy read and well organized. I have about 100 hours in the G1000 and still found it useful. I think for the first time user the Missed Approach Procedure could be expanded.
I would also add a chapter on practical aspects of flying the G1000: SRM, progression plan using the G1000, checklist usage strategies, division of duties with two pilots, IFR departure in uncontrolled environments....
The TAA and specifically G1000 deserve classroom, CFI instruction and independent study. This book will be a great addition to your reference library. Please don't read this and think you can fly the G1000 - let alone IFR!

Coconut oil can change the world - but you need to know how to use it

About two years ago, a friend gave me my very first jar (vat?!?) of coconut oil. It was solid and in a glass jar - so I wasn't sure what to do with it. Like any person with something new, I hit Pinterest trying to learn what to do and found that I could use it as a substitute in recipe (delicious in cookies and other baked goods!) and could also use it to make beauty products and even as a "pulling oil" for overall health. While I felt like I was rocking the coconut oil thing, I was still a bit behind the times, so I was really excited when I received The Coconut Oil Cure e-book in exchange for my unbiased and honest opinion. The book starts out explaining the history of coconut oil (good to know!) and then jumps into the benefits and how to use it in your everyday life for health improvements, beauty upgrades and cooking in ways I hadn't thought of. I enjoy the photos in this book and the explanations are easy to understand. This is a great book for someone looking to improve their life through small changes that add up to something huge.

Oh I'm so happy with my book. First of all it came super fast and arrived in perfect condition. I'm a book junkie and can be picky about books I spend my money on. Well, I must say it was well worth every penny. The useful information and recipes are worth their weight in gold. I've been drinking coconut oil blended in my coffee of a morning, using it to moisture my feet( dry heels) and even gave my cat a little to help pass a hair ball. I find myself reading a page or two every night before bed. Since using coconut oil I've lost six pounds. I'm also noticing a difference in my joints not hurting as much. Grab this book today. Interesting reading experience!

Coconut oil can be used for abscess, asthma, baldness, burns, and bruises etc. The coconut tree has parts that can be used for many different purposes. For instance the roots can be used to treat digestive issues such as diarrhea and dysentery. The trunk is used to process wood products for construction and grounded into pulp to make paper. The leaves are used for roofs and fencing. The nectar of flowers are boiled down to make syrup, and used to make alcohol and vinegar. The husks is used to make rope, rugs, twine, clothing and potting soil. There are other parts of the coconut tree that are used but to long for me to list here. A very educational book on how to use coconut oil and the benefits from it. I recieved this book for free in exchanged for my honest and unbiased review.

Small Animal Dentistry (Cats/Dogs)

This is the Bible of dental books on small animal dentistry. Even though it is in black and white, there are pictures and just about every topic is covered from scaling teeth to dental surgery. Pictures of scalers, and polishers, types of drugs used and step-by-step procedures will be useful for beginners to experts. May I eat my words if this book does not prove to be worth its weight in gold!

Excellent book for Keto noobs! :-)

My husband and I have just started the ketogenic diet and I've been a bit overwhelmed. A friend recommended this book, so I decided to give it a try.
I just got it today, and have already read it! She breaks it all down so well, so it is so much easier to understand. In this book you get four different shopping lists for each individual week of menus she provides. Basically she plans the whole month out for you with tons of delicious sounding means. Breakfast lunch dinner AND snacks are covered! There's even a keto smoothie section which I was very happy to find!
There is a list of pantry staples to have while doing keto as well which was very helpful to me. Every recipe she has on the menu is provided along with extras. This book is 100% worth the money if you are doing keto! I've googled and joined groups and spent so much time looking things up about this online and was still having some issues but this book really helped break it down in the way I needed to understand.
I HIGHLY recommend this book!

Day 11 and smooth sailing!

I'm on day 11 of my Keto challenge. So far it's been much easier than I anticipated to give up carbs and sugar, which for me is really saying something. Not that I don't have my challenges or cravings, because I still definitely do, but I've been able to manage them. It has also done wonders on curbing my appetite. Most of the time I'll feel like ... I should eat but I'm kind of ambivalent about it. It helps me make good decisions since I'm not ravenous. Keto is a fairly easy diet to implement as far as what's in and what's out. Eat a lot of fat, moderate protein, and try to keep carbs as low as possible. I like that the explanation portion of the book was light. It just went over most of the need to know and nitty gritty of doing keto without going into exhaustive detail. That might not be for everyone, but for someone who's been doing nutrition research for years, it helped not feel overwhelmed with information, most of it redundant. So far I've lost about 8 lbs, though I'm aware most of it could be water.

The only reason I took away a star is for the recipes. I'm a single person with only myself to cook for. Most of the recipes make 4 servings. To make matters worse, I'd be spending minimum $300 on groceries each week if I followed the mail plan to a T. Even with my adaptation and trying to keep expenses low, I'm spending over $100 the first week or two. I'm hoping with some of the more expensive stuff like the different flours, extracts, and spices purchased, that some of my expenses will go down. In addition, if I made every meal for every day that the plan mentions, I'd be spending at least 2 hours a day cooking or my entire Sunday cooking like 12 meals. It's ludicrous for a busy single person with a job to be expected to do. It's where almost every diet plan falls down. On a positive side I wish someone would make me those meals because they do look delcious and the few I've cooked so far were really well done.

This has led to a lot of trial and error and not really following the meals plan at all. From the book, I picked 1-2 breakfasts, 1-2 smoothies, 1 crockpot-esque meal, and then used the snack section for inspiration. Then I went to the meat counter at my local grocery store (they have really good meat) and picked a bunch of meats that looked to not have any sugary carby marinades or breadings. I've been using Fitpal to calculate my net carbs, fat, and protein to try to make sure I'm close to the grams mentioned in the book, but it's not exact. I keep wondering if I'd be losing more if I could follow the plan because my protein is a bit high and I feel like I'm not eating any vegetables.

In any case, I'd still recommend this to a friend with the caveat to maybe play mix and match with the meals unless he/she has a family. The fact that I'm ambivalent about food and not ravenous all the time after only a few days into the diet, speaks wonders to powers of low carb!

J.A. Baart, Department of Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery, Vrije Universiteit Medical Centre and Academic Centre for Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA), Amsterdam, the Netherlands. For more than three decades, Dr Baart has taught the dental students of ACTA in oral and maxillofacial surgery and the practical aspects of the administration of local anaesthetics. He now coordinates the course “Introduction to local anaesthesia” at ACTA.

H.S. Brand, Department of Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery & Department of Basic Dental Sciences, Academic Centre for Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA), Amsterdam, the Netherlands. A British woman (Jane) meets a French billionaire (Xavier) while on vacation and they have an affair. On the last day of her vacation, Xavier's assistant lets Jane know that she's just one of many women Xavier has on tap. By this time, Jane is already in love with Xavier and flees back to England, humiliated, and intends never to see Xavier again. Except she finds out that she's pregnant.

Due to a codicil in Xavier's late father's will, Xavier's children cannot inherit if they are born out of wedlock, so Xavier and Jane marry for the sake of the child.

*************ISSUES****************
I have three issues with the book.
1. Xavier's parents had a horrible marriage and after his mother's death, his father hated the thought of marriage so much he refused to remarry, yet he included a codicil to force his son to marry. I get that their lineage was important, but it just seems weird a father who hates marriage writing a codicil like that.

2. As another reviewer wrote, the section of the book where Jane is forcing herself to give Xavier the cold shoulder started getting on my nerves after a while. I know we needed it develop tension between the characters, but it really did start to get on my nerves when it went on for page after page after page.

3. This woman is pregnant, her husband is a billionaire and there is never a mention of her seeing a doctor, getting a sonogram or anything. Not even prenatal vitamins. Come on. Shouldn't she have had at least a check up. The first time he sees her in 4 months, she faints in front of him, she tells him she'd pregnant, and he doesn't ask if she's ok, if she needs a OB/GYN or something? Never once asks if the baby is healthy? And this is a man who is in desperate need of an heir? Wouldn't he want to make sure that everything is in tip top shape? I don't know, but that scenario bothered me.

Other than those issues, I liked this book. The woman was independent, and wasn't a doormat, and the man was a definite alpha male without coming across as being a jackass or by being verbally abusive as they are in so many of these Harlequin Presents books. They are both pretty likeable, even though they could be irritating at times.

If you are looking for a lot of tension and conflict, this is not the book for you. This is a book about a couple forced together and who try to work out their respective situations to the best of their abilities while both trying to save face in a difficult situation.

A nice read I wholeheartedly recommend. Very sweet.

Excellent - Buy This Book

What I can I say? This new writer did a wonderful job with the storyline. It was very believable and realistic, yet still romantic. The two main characters have a sizzling chemistry from the moment they meet and it was maintained throughout the entire story. Both were flawed but very likeable, especially the hero. The setting was vivid and romantic and the plot flowed very well, although there were a few parts that were frustrating. However, it was not ridiculously drawn out so as to overpower a great plot.

It is refreshing to read something for a change under the harlequin title, done with a sort of old approach, dressed and spiced up so as to make it refreshing. It kept me reading until 3 am and I had to go to work the same day. Now that has to be a really good book!

I say great job to Ms. Green for such a wonderful first effort. I hope she keeps up the good work and show those other boring, no-imagination harlequin writers how a real romance should be written.

I enjoyed this one very much

When you are in the mood for an HP then this is as good as they get. Of course the H was alpha with issues and the h was innocent and probably not up to the challenge of handling him and his past. Anyway the story moves along nicely and although there is the period of celibacy, it built up the tension quite nicely between the 2 main characters. As I said if you are in the mood for this type of romance then this is well worth reading.

Featured Recipe from True Brews Ginger Ale

Makes about 8 cups

Ingredients

• 2-inch piece fresh ginger root
• 1 cup water, plus more to fill the bottles
• 9 tablespoons / 4 ounces white granulated sugar, plus more if needed
• 1⁄8 teaspoon salt
• 5 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice (from 2 to 3 lemons), plus more if needed
• 1⁄8 teaspoon dry champagne yeast
• Peel and finely grate the ginger (I use a Microplane). You should have about 2 tablespoons of grated ginger root.

Directions

Bring the water to a boil in a small saucepan on the stove top or in the microwave. Remove from the heat. Add the sugar and salt and stir to dissolve. Add the ginger and let stand until cool. Stir in the lemon juice.

Pour the ginger water into a clean 2-liter bottle using a funnel. Do not strain out the ginger. Top off the bottle with water, leaving at least 1 inch of headspace. Give it a taste and add more lemon juice or sugar if desired. The extra sugar will dissolve on its own.

Add the yeast. Screw on the cap and shake the bottle to dissolve and distribute the yeast. Let the bottle sit at room temperature out of direct sunlight until carbonated, typically 12 to 48 hours, depending on the temperature of the room. Check the bottle periodically; when it feels rock solid with very little give, it’s ready.

Refrigerate overnight or for up to 2 weeks. Open very slowly over a sink to release the pressure gradually and avoid bubble-ups. Pour the soda through a small fine-mesh strainer to catch the ginger as you pour.

Makes 1 gallon

Ingredients

• 1 1⁄2 pounds fresh or frozen sweet cherries
• 1 gallon dechlorinated water (see page 14)
• 1 Campden tablet
• 10 cups / 5 pounds short-grain rice
• 2 1⁄2 cups / 11⁄4 pounds koji rice (page 146, or see Resources, page 176)
• 1 teaspoon yeast nutrient
• 1⁄2 teaspoon acid blend
• 1⁄2 teaspoon pectic enzyme
• 1 1⁄2 tablespoons (1/2 tube) liquid sake or lager yeast, or 2 teaspoons (1 packet) white wine yeast

Directions

Starting 24 hours before you plan to brew, sanitize a 2-gallon bucket, its lid, the air lock, and a spoon for stirring.

Pit and coarsely chop the cherries. Combine the cherries with the water in the bucket. Crush the Campden tablet and stir it in. Snap on the lid and attach the air lock. Wait 24 hours for the Campden to sterilize the cherries.

The next day, soak, steam, and cool rice as described on page 140. Add the steamed rice, koji rice, yeast nutrient, acid blend, pectic enzyme, and yeast to the bucket with the cherries. (If you are steaming your rice in batches, combine everything with the first batch and add the remaining rice to the fermenter as it is cooled and ready.) Stir vigorously to distribute the yeast and aerate the rice mash.

Snap on the lid and attach the air lock. Store the sake somewhere cool and dark, ideally around 55�F. You should see active fermentation as evidenced by bubbles in the air lock within 48 hours. Ferment the sake for 2 weeks, stirring daily with a sanitized spoon.

To finish the sake, sanitize a strainer, flour sack towel, stockpot, funnel, a 1-gallon jug, and its stopper.

First, pour the sake through the strainer into the stockpot. Discard all the rice and cherry solids. Set the funnel in the 1-gallon jug and line it with the flour sack towel. Strain the sake again, this time into the jug. Because of all the rice sediment, this can take a while. Stir the liquid in the funnel frequently to prevent the sediment from compacting and slowing down the straining. If the flour sack towel becomes clogged, rinse it out, sanitize it, and replace.

Clean the stockpot. Set the jug of sake, uncovered, inside the pot and fill the pot with water until the water is level with the surface of the sake. Set the pot over medium heat. Warm the sake to 140�F to pasteurize the sake and stop the koji and yeast activity (this does not affect the alcohol content). Allow the sake to cool.

To bottle the sake, sanitize ten 12-ounce bottles or six 22-ounce bottles (or five 750-milliliter wine bottles), their caps (or corks), the siphon hose, the racking cane, its tip, and the bottle filler. Shake the jug of sake to make sure the sediment is fully suspended in the sake during bottling. Siphon the sake into the bottles, shaking the jug again if the sediment begins to settle. Cap (or cork) the bottles and label.

Sake can be drunk immediately or aged for up to 1 year. Shake the bottles before serving and serve chilled.

I just adore this book

I bought this book primarily to make soda since I already make kefir at home and as far as kombucha goes.. I just can't with the SCOBY. It's too... gelatinous for me.
Anyway, the very first thing I did was to make the watermelon mint soda. WORTH IT. Oh My Gawd. I'm hooked.. some of these methods are too involved for me, like the sake, but I'm very interested in brewing mead and hard lemonade.

My favorite bit about this book is that everything is small batches. You get to dip your toe into brewing without a huge investment. My first batch of soda was made in the recommended washed out two liter bottle. Less than a dollar for champagne yeast, a watermelon and some mint from my garden and I was all set to make the best soda ever in the world.

Emma gives you a basic recipe/method for each thing to make.. a Master recipe, if you will. I'm already dreaming of the different kinds of soda I can make with this new information.

I'm also looking forward to making hard cider as soon as it's apple season.

UPDATE: 02/08/14:

Well, I have a SCOBY because someone sent me one... and let me tell you, it's totally awesome once you get past the "omg whut is this?" factor. I have made the blackberry sage kombucha and it's totally one of my favorites. I've also made the pear water kefir.. DELISH. I'm currently working on the Sweet Mulled Cider.. I'm adding the yeast tomorrow.. it'll be a long wait but it will be ready in October.
